Héros historique

Abraham Lincoln became the first president of Republicans from 1861 to 1865 through a division of the Democrats on the subject of slavery. He comes from Kentucky which is a Northern state, that is why he was against slavery and won the voices of abolitionists. But Southerners did not accept him because their economy was based on exploiting the black man. So this triggered the process that leads to the Civil War.

The Civil War lasted four years and ended in victory for the Republicans . Nevertheless, on 19 November 1863 , Lincoln delivered a famous speech at Gettysburg "the Gettysburg Address " at the dedication ceremony of the battlefield that made 51,000 casualties among the soldiers of the Union and the Confederacy. This speech is important because it reminded the stakes of this war : freedom , equality and the abolition of slavery.

Furthermore, he declared that the United-State of America was " Conceived in Liberty , and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.’’ and " that government of the people , by the people , for the people , shall not perish from the earth . ". In 1965, he was assassinated which had the effect of gathering the Americans and make them forget the many hatreds that focused on his person. The action of Lincoln was a posthumous culmination with the vote of the thirteenth amendment to the United States Constitution , on December 18, 1865 , which abolished slavery . In addition, a statue of him was created in 1922 the " Lincoln Memorial" which became an emblematic place of equality and some great speeches were delivered at this place like the famous " I have a dream " of Martin Luther King, August 28, 1963.

Abraham Lincoln is remembered for his vital role as the leader in preserving the Union during the Civil War and beginning the process that led to the end of slavery in the United States. He is also remembered for his character, his speeches and letters, and as a man of humble origins whose determination and perseverance led him to the nation's highest office. He managed to lead during the worst constitutional crisis , military and legal history of the United States .
