Hi everyone, today I would like to talk to you about a subject that is too present and yet put in the shadows because it is too taboo, I am talking about child violence.

To begin with, I'm going to give you some figures of the year 2018 in France, the police recorded approximately 55 000 minors who were victims of physical violence, 21 370 minors who were victims of sexual violence, of whom 7 240 were victims of rape and 14 130 were victims of sexual assaults. And 80 children died as a result of beatings by a family member, in other words, 1 child every 5 days. But it is important to remember that the figures published represent only the revealed part of the crime, not all victims and all offenses are known to the police.

The reason I'm talking to you about this today is because more than one million children around the world face violence and many do not speak out for lot of reasons. Some think their situation is normal, some think they can handle the situation on their own and some are afraid of the consequences. It is estimated that 60% of people who have been victims of violence have never spoken about it.

The first law for child violence appeared on 18 July 1918 and on 5 March 2007 another law appeared to prevent such violence. The penalty can range from 5 to 30 years imprisonment if the violence result to the death of the minors.

However, I have only spoken to you about physical violence, but there is also psychological violence. These are the most difficult to discern since they do not mark the skin and unfortunately the least taken seriously and yet those that leave the most after effects. This kind of violence involves denigrating words, insults, humiliation, threats, intimidation, and so on.

Now I have one last number to quote you, did you know that 37 children aged 5 to 14 years have already given their deaths in 2018? I'd like you to think, how can a child be aware of what is death and how can he want to die? How can a being so pure think the worst so soon? I wonder and I ask you.

Today, I wanted to talk to you about this violence, I want you to think about it ans I want you to take action.
