Can racism ever be eliminated?
Racism is a major problem throughout the world and has been for many years. How can we make a world where every citizen has the same rights? A world where we don’t talk about racial prejudice, about segregation... and many more awful terms. Can it ever be eliminated?
Why should a colored or a white person have to be discriminated for a skin color that others don’t consider as the “right type of skin”? But what’s the right type of skin? In addition, who’s “right” and who’s “wrong”? You will never meet two absolutely identical faces ,but for that, there’s no prejudgment so why is the world making such a big deal of a difference in the skin color? Why do we judge people on the color of their skin, and not on the form of their nose or eyes?
The world is a multi cultural society. In my opinion, either we will or we won’t have to learn how to live with it. Furthermore, we have to make the best of it, and forget about the racial prejudices to make a world where a colored person is on equal footing with a white person. But for me there’s still hope, it all starts with self esteem and confidence, black girls are starting to embrace themselves and being who they truly are. Not so long ago, girls used to straighten their hair and to use products so their skin would become lighter. However, now they are confident about who they are, and they are starting to fight for what they deserve.
Our world is full of different nations, and different people. Each individual has something unique to bring to the table. They are capable of bringing you the things that you do not have, as you can bring them something that they do not know. The mixture is a mutual enrichment. I personally think diversity is a wonderful thing.
Due to my personal experiences, I admit I’ve-experienced racism several times in Europe. It wasn’t a big deal but for me it was still racism. Every time, I, as a black person entered in a shop (in an expensive shops particularly) the staff would stare at me and they then they look like they don’t want to serve you or to help you with anything. They presume that you can't afford to buy anything. For me, sometimes, racism comes from a lack of education, they automatically think that colored people are poor, which is not true. You can’t generalise a skin color with financial capacity. And it’s all a matter of education.
In conclusion, racism can be eliminated and we are on the right track. Different movements against racism are being created every day! And for the rest a major part as I said earlier in the text is due to a lack of education, so if people started to read more, to cultivate their self, it would be the start of big changes in the world and the end of a global problem called racism.
