Short presentation:

Whether we talk about transport of people, goods and foodstuffs, or about roads and houses construction, Volvo group is present everywhere. Volvo transportation solutions help to improve the functioning of companies all around the world.

Its job is the conception and assembly of buses, trucks and construction machines, in addition of energy production systems for the maritime and industrial sector. They provide a combination of products and services at international level. The activity covers several renowned ranges and brands like Renault trucks in France or Mack in USA. Nevertheless, during the year 1999, the group sales its automotive branch to Ford for $6.5 billion at ford, who cedes Volvo Cars in 2010, at the brand Geely, for the price of $1.8 billion dollars.

Work organization and policy:

Volvo group is the employer of 120 000 employees, including 13 000 in France, with production sites in 20 countries and commercial establishments in 190 countries.

Volvo group work with national organizations charged of products development, components purchasing and vehicles production, but the commercialization is managed by itch brands to satisfy customers’ needs.

Truck activity is organized in 3 divisions:

  • Technology: who developed future products.
  • Purchasing: who buy different resources to give work at the production
  • Production: who made the product.

Success:

In 1959, Volvo becomed the first brand in the world to equip all cars with seat belts. The solution were quickly adopted around the world, thanks to Volvo which immediately has the Nils Bohlin patent available to all manufacturers. The invention of the seatbelt as it knows today, has been recognized as "one of the eight patents considered the most important for humanity has passed in the automotive field!"
