◉ Ecoutez la chanson “too many friends” de Placebo (que vous trouverez sur Youtube sans problème), et essayez de comprendre le sens de cette chanson sans tout de suite chercher les paroles sur internet. La vidéo officielle peut vous aider (mais attention, elle est un peu déprimante à force).

◉ cherchez les paroles (beaucoup de sites vous les proposerons) et lisez-les (au besoin cherchez le vocabulaire)

◉ Ensuite, essayez de compléter ce texte, qui résume le message de cette chanson. Vous pouvez n’écrire que les n° et le mot, je vous enverrai en correction le texte complété de toute façon.

The narrator has decided to 1 his computer to cut himself off from the world, to

cut all the 2 he had with his so-called / 3 friends. He has had enough of / He can’t

stand rumours/4. It is a painful experience and he feels betrayed. This situation is

5, consequently / as a result he will 6 his cell phone. From now on he will

do without technology. He has decided to live in complete 7 for some time. “I threw

away that piece of junk” (l. 2), “This is my last communiqué down the super highway” (l. 5).

He is said to be / He is believed to / thought to / rumoured to be gay: “My computer thinks

I’m gay.” (l. 1) He realises the Internet has many 8: he has too many friends, he

lives in a virtual world, he can’t 9 his real friends because he hardly sees them. He

stresses that our 10 friends might not be real friends. A real friend can help whenever

you 11 it. A real friend is someone you can rely on, you can 12 and confide in. As the

proverb says, “a friend in need is a friend indeed.” It is someone who 13 you when

you meet difficulties.

On the Internet the relationship we have with people is 14 and meaningless. That’s why

he feels hurt, lonely, 15, miserable, depressed, and angry.

He blames / criticizes people for being 16 to their phones. The narrator stresses that

people are addicted to their phones, they keep 17 at their screens instead of communicating

or exchanging. He denounces people’s limited and 18 world.
