Does the progress always lead to a better world?

The notion of progress is a notion synonym with improving, with advance or new technologies in order to live in better conditions. To illustrate this notion, and to answer at the question, I have chosen three documents talking about medicine progress. One of these documents is a cartoon and the two others are texts.

So, the first document is a cartoon which introduces the notion. Indeed, we can see men on a conveyer belt : 4 of them are well built whereas one of them is skinny. This man is rejected as he doesn’t fit in. In the foreground, we can see a dumpster in which we can see rejects. It is written “clones R us”, which is a pun: indeed it alludes to the toy store “Toys R us”. These men are sorted out. The aim of the cartoon is to denounce eugenics (it is the science which studies methods of improving genetic composition of the humans race by selective breeding). In this case the notion of progress is denounced. Indeed the progress of science must be used in good ways : to cure people, to help them suffer less, but in no way to manipulate them.
