Today, we’re going to introduce you to Camden.
Camden Town, (that is often named simply Camden) is a district of London. It is located in the center of London, and it surely is one of the most important district of London.
History
At the beginning, it was a residential district and part of Kentish Town in London. Camden Town became an important industrial zone during the development of the railways. This industrial zone has been progressively replaced by tourism attractions and shops including lots of of internationally known markets.
Markets
⏎Camden has lots of very big and very famous markets : Camden Lock (started in 1973), Stables market, Buck Street market, Inverness Street (that is a century old !), and a big indoor market. These markets selling all kinds of products (books, food, used clothing) attract tourists and yong people (especially punk people) from all the world. There is a very big and very famous Doc Martens boots store there.
Means of transport
Tube
⏎ Camden Tube station is near all the other famous places in London such as the London Eye, Kings Cross or the Tower of London that are reachable in less than 20 minutes from Camden.
Rail
From Camden, you can reach St-Pancras within 20 minutes by London Overground.
Regent's Canal
⏎ The Regent's Canal runs through all of Camden Town.
Waterbuses operate on the Regent's Canal with a departure from Camden every hour.
Things to visit
The streets of Camden are so special : they welcome visitors in an mix of tourists, street vendors, protesters and punks. Camden Town has two breweries. There are lots of private art galleries, and there is the Jewish Museum where you can explore the Jewish heritage.
And there is also the London Zoo in Regent's Park where you can bring the kids to watch spectacular animals ! You can climb to the top of Primrose Hill to admire a beautiful view of all London.
