Artificial Intelligence : AI

Today, we are going to talk about Artificial Intelligence also known as AI.

What is AI ? Artificial Intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computers and robots. They learn by themselves, reason and self-correct really fast.

It all started in the 50's with Alan Turing's work. He was wondering if computers could think on their own. So he did a test to qualify computers as « intelligent ».

In the late 50's, Frank Rosenblatt who was a psychologist, created the « perceptron », a machine with a neural network capable of categorizing simple forms.

In the 70's and 80's, multi-layered neural networks were created, inspired by the visual cortex, allowing the learning of more complex tasks.

In 1997, Garry Kasparov, world's champion in chess game ; is beaten by « Deep Blue »,  the IBM incredible computer. The computer was calculating 200 milllions options when his opponent only 3. This event marked the beginning of the revalry of intelligence with humans.

Artificial Intelligence has improved even more between the years 2000 and today with the recognition of a face, a voice etc. It's becoming more and more efficient as the years go by.

For example, in 2016, The AlphaGo software from Google DeepMind wins at a Chinese game called Go against Lee Sedol the world's champion at the go game. It was a victory from the software that was not expected before fifteen years.

On the medicine side, nanorobots are being considered by Google for 2020. They will flow into our arteries to keep us healthy by fighting diseases and cancers. They hope maybe one day these robots will keep us immortal.

Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence is growing almost everywhere and is very useful in factories, in medicine, in our daily life, but a lot of people fear this progression and are against it. To them, the future of robotization could lead us to ruin. At the extreme, some people might say that a war could break out bewteen humans and robots.

The problem is that artificial intelligence is modeled on the human's brain and when those machines will exceed a degree of knowledge as advanced as a human being, it is feared that they will be able to think for themselves and take autonomous decisions. Which could be dangerous for us because they would no longer need us and could take over our society.

Furthermore, artificial intelligence could destroy millions of jobs, replacing drivers with automatic vehicles, or the manpower in factories by programmed automatic machines . According to various studies, robotization would threaten 42% of jobs and could destroy 3 million jobs in France by 2025. All socio-professional categories could be threatened.

Artificial Intelligence has good and bad sides, the solution is that our society must learn how to cohabit with the artificial intelligence, we should put our fears aways to be prepared to the moment where Artificial intelligence will be everywhere. We have to be careful with new technologies but accept themin another way.
