"Positive psychology" is revolutionary in that it focuses on what makes people happy. Its objective is to develop the capacity to love and be loved , to give meaning to our actions , to be responsible for what we can change , to be resilient that we cannot avoid. The international research program on the ability of Tibetan monks to fill with positive emotions is a beautiful illustration of this new psychology. By practice, they can radically transform the state of their brain to more serenity and compassion. They show that it is possible to train the brain to an extraordinary happiness.

For those of us who will never be monks , the first major study of positive psychology open more easily passable perspectives: they ask us , for example, noted in a newspaper ( at least once a week ) the events more positive than we have experienced and how we have helped . After only six weeks ( roughly the same time as that required for the action of an antidepressant ... ) , the satisfaction we derive our life has improved considerably .

One of the strongest results of positive psychology has demonstrated the importance of our connection to others. The specialist optimal experience - notes that " people are happiest when in the company of other human beings. The worst is to want to go home alone with nothing to do in particular, and that is precisely what a large proportion of people believed to desire more ! The simple pursuit of "pleasure" does not lead to a sustainable well-being . Three kinds of determinants of happiness at work can be distinguished: environmental determinants demographic and individual .

Environmental determinants that affect happiness at work are autonomy , the ability to use skills , clarity of objectives , the variety of tasks , clear feedback and information about the future , payroll , security physical , consideration and support manager , social relations , the social value of work and the value that the worker gives him. Some of these determinants act in a curvilinear , such as physical security . For others, there is an optimal point after which there is a drop in happiness is the case of autonomy or variety of tasks.

Older workers are happier . Various reasons have been put forward : they work more attractive , their aspirations are better suited , they give value to different characteristics of work. Very young workers also reported higher satisfaction .

We have different perspectives on our respective work. Some see their work as a vocation , others as a career , others as an obligation. People who have a high level of positive affectivity perceive their work as much safer and there is more social support . People who have a high level of negative affectivity have much dissatisfaction , whatever the job.

Happiness at work has an influence on work behavior and performance. It promotes turnover. It promotes positive behaviors such as altruism , assistance, punctuality, is to do the work without the need to be controlled. More generally , happiness promotes success .
