1. INTRODUCTION

1. Background

According to the course Business and Logistics Cases, we write a thesis about the High Technologies in Economy. In some of our previous studies and to prepare our future projects, we want to study deeper the effects of high technology, especially the Information technology, on businesses and therefore the economy. Unfortunately, this topic is very general and we need to narrow down our research and make it more specific. That’s why we would like to figure out the impact of Internet of Things (IoT) on the Supply Chain Management (SCM). Nowadays, not so many people understand what IoT is and why it is so important. We will explore these questions, go deeper in this topic. It will help us to learn something new, first of all, for us and we hope our work will be helpful for other people.

1. Research question or Project objective

By studying the Information Technology, we want, at first, to better understand roles and effects of it in businesses and economy in general. How these technologies have changed the labour organization nice to the important number of evolutions since many dozens of year, the most recent Information Technologies, the impact on the employment, GPD growth and some other effects of IT in business and economy. After that we will focus on the Internet of Things, its definition, concept, practical applications and, of course, its impact on the Supply Chain Management, we will learn why IoT can change the way people think about logistics.

1. Theoretical framework, literature and other information sources, scope

To expose the roles and effects of Information Technology into businesses and economy, we are going to organize our work in four parts:

• Definition of Information Technology and its role in Economy
• Definition of IoT and SCM
• Practical applications of IoT in different industries
• Impact of IoT to the SCM

In order to understand the global aspect and main purpose of IoT, we are going to use various sources of information. To describe what IoT is, we are going to use different internet sources to have the most complete description. One or more books and articles are going to be used to understand and highlight roles and effects of IoT in SCM. To find some example of measured impact we will search information on internet and magazines to find company reports, databases and others.
