SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka officially the Democratist Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is an island country in South Asia, more specifically in the south east of India. The island is home to many languages, reliogions and ethnicities. The commercial capital of the country is Colombo and the administrative capital is Sri Jayawardenapura. The current president is Maithripala Sirisena and the official currency is the sri lankan rupee.
Sri Lanka was called Ceylon until 1972. Near the 5th century before Jesus Christ, emigrants come from the North of India settled down on the island. The Buddhism and the monarchy(kingship) developed there then between 3rd and 2nd century before J-C. At the beginning of the 16th century, Portuguese landed on the island and introduced the Catholicism there. Then it was in the tour of the Dutch (17th century) and finally the British (18th century) to colonize theisland. Ceylon becomes independent in 1948 and also since 1948 they become part of the Commonwealth.
The largest part of the landscapes of the island includes fertile plains and numerous forests and there are also numerous coasts (1340 KM). The country is marked by a wet climate and has several mountain regions in the center of the island Sri Lanka possesses several mountainous regions situated in the center of the island; they establish important water tanks nature. Concerning the flora and fauna, Sri Lanka shelters approximately 50 sanctuaries dedicated to wild life and some national parks sheltering in particular elephants, considered as the most important animal of the country.They are also rare animals like crocodiles, leopard, tigers..
The culture of Sri Lanka is strongly influenced by the Indian religion and especially of the Buddhism. From a culinary point of view, the basic dish includes some curry and some rice and On the coasts of the country, it is possible to eat fishes, crabs and shrimps. The meals are traditionally served on a banana tree leaf. In April, Sri Lankans celebrate the festivities of the new Buddhist and Indian year. In August is held the Buddhist Esala Perahera festival, the symbolic event including numerous cultural dances , as well as a parade of elephants richly decorated. The national sport isn't the cricket but the volley ball the most popular sport is of curse the cricket.
