We are standing here today to make you react about a fact that is touching 795 millions of people in the world, which represents 1 of 9 people. Firstly, we will introduce ourselves. My name is Claire Gassmann, and I am Manon Stoltz, we represent Yemen (a country under emergency). In Yemen, 17 million people are insecure about food and over 3 million women and children under 5 need nutrition support.
Some of the reasons that have led to this situation are economical inaccessibility, since Yemen appears among the poorest countries of the world. "They are heavily put into debt and are an underdeveloped country. They also suffer from climate issues such as droughts. the main reason why is that the accumulation is the accumulation of conflicts which have massively impoverished the country. Mainly, Saudi Arabia has bombarded the rebels and caused a lot of destruction in the towns of Yemen.
Because of the collapse of the health system, a child dies every 10 minutes of diseases in Yemen which would be avoided in peacetime. This coutry has been at war for two years now, and has had the most acute malnutrition cases for children : 2,2 milions, of which 462 000 of those children suffer from a very severe form of malnutrition. There has been an increase of almost 200 % since 2014, and if we don't do anything this number is likely to rise. Mechanisms of survival of families in the Yemen reached their limits that's why we need you, all of you, you can change the world and have a significant rôle to play in this distressed situation.
You can become a volonteer, and organize events, raise awarness of people and collect funds.
You can also volunteer more directly, if you are a qualified doctor, you can go into the field, and be usefull overthere.
You can make a donation to help us raise the necessary funds to feed and take care of children, they really need us.
And if you really feel concerned about all of it, and want to devote your life and make the world a better place, you can postulate for a position in the ONU.
Thanks for listening, we hope that you will think about what we have said", and hope that we succeed to make you aware of the situation.
