The Vietnam War (also known as Second Indochina War or American War in Southeast Asia) lasted from 1955 to 1975. It was fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was supported by the USSR, China and North Korea, while South Vietnam was supported by the United States with its allies, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. This conflict between pro-communist and pro-capitalist countries was part of the Cold War.
At the end of the War in Indochina, two States are based(established), the one, the communist in the North and the other, supported by the Americans, in the South. In 1960, the FNL (National Front of liberation) is created; he(it) fights against the dictator ready(in position) in the South-Vietnam, Ngô Dinh Diem and against the American influence. In 1963, after the fall of Diem, the American government takes care of the fight(wrestling) against the FNL, its military commitment is massive from 1964. But the North-Vietnam, supported by the USSR and China, brings into conflict a strong resistance. This war, committing(hiring) 500 000 American privates, widely covered by the television which shows the horrors lived by the soldiers and the Vietnamese population, becomes unpopular in the United States. In March, 1973, the agreements of Paris end in the evacuation by the Americans of the South-Vietnam. The fall of Saigon takes place in 1975: the capital of the South-Vietnam becomes Hô-Chi-Minh-Ville.
