Competency standard I:
To establish and maintain a safe healthy learning environment
Functional area# 3: Learning environment
My role in creating a learning environment is making sure that my curriculum and activities meet all developmental domain such as gross and fine motor, cognitive, social and emotional, language and self-help, math, science and social studies, I also have to remember that all children don’t develop at the same rate, therefore I have to be able to incorporate each child’s individual need. We use different strategies to facilitate smooth transitions so the children can move from one activity to the next.
CSI b:
The physical space of the classroom is acceptable. The children have space to move and play in each area. All equipment and material are age appropriate. All staff members help children feel secure, and encourage children to be independent.
CSI c:
Our lesson plan is strictly based on the children’s interest. We have a well-balanced small/large group activity. During free choice the children are free to explore and use their curiosity. We help when asked and we only instruct/teach during calendar and project times.
