Abstract:

As we know the economic growth of any country depends on the agriculture, fishing, gas, and tourism, so that's why I've chosen this topic. This report presents the analysis of the fishing industry in Morocco. The fishing industry is a productive sector which creates a lot of job opportunities and plays a big role in improving the income of multiple families. In this report we will start by talking about the history of fisheries and the major locations attached to this activity in morocco especially, then we will talk about the industry in general providing some numbers, after that we will proceed to show the different products produced and the main buyers or customers of morocco and at the end we will close with an overview of the top Morocco’s competitors.

Geographic Area:

Fishing has been a central industry ideal from the 30s and it's primarily focused in the urban communities of Safi and Agadir. Morocco is equally the greatest producer of the European sardine. The coastal fishing represents about 86% of the main overall production, 13% deep sea fishing and algae aquaculture and Agriculture. Mostly, the Western Sahara waters are known to be rich in fishery. The beach front fishing supply for the Moroccan fish industry, which can be found in the Southern urban communities of Agadir, Tarfaya, Laayoune and Tan tan. The production of the aquaculture meanly including tuna, shellfish, sea bass. The major aquaculture producers are located in Nador and Hoceima on the Atlantic Ocean and Azrou on an in land lake.

Industry:

The fishery sector assumes a big role in socioeconomic and it’s one of the mainstays of the national economy, also it is a strategic sector not only in macroeconomic stability. Because of the richness of the foreign currency inflow it is making the development of the country in terms like employment opportunities, it offers more than 660.000 jobs.

In 2011 Morocco becomes one of the great African countries in fishery production and export, the total cost of Moroccan’s fishery exportation it’s about MAD 11,7 billion including 58% of food products exports and 6.8% of the general exports. 

As the main North African nation without oil, Morocco has needed to benefit as much as possible from its different points of interest. The sea off Morocco's Atlantic drift is one of the wealthiest fishing grounds in the world.

Even if Morocco's sea fishing fleet is smaller in tonnage than its coastal fishing fleet, in the same time they still have the largest return in value since their catches are comprised generally high-costed cephalopods and white fish.
The Government of Morocco started a progression of measures in 1990, including port development and financial encouragements, which would motivate the Moroccan fishing fleets to Moroccan ports.
Thanks to the Morocco's high sea fleet were based in Moroccan ports. The port of Agadir city which is the home to the most of the fleet while Tan Tan also keeps a quantity of boats. The movement of the high sea fleet underlines the progression of the Moroccan fishing industry and its development into a challenger for Spain. In addition, this development set Morocco for meeting with different fleets in her seawater, which is exactly what happened between Morocco and Spain.
