Raine Maida’s Biography (Our Lady Peace’s singer/writer)

It is an honour for me to introduce you Raine Maida’s biography from Our Lady Peace. Our Lady Peace is a Canadian band that saw the day in early 1992. According to me, Raine is an awesome person and I am so glad to have the opportunity to write about my favorite band/singer, which I started to listen their music in 1996.

First, I would like to write is about his personal life. Raine Michael Maida was born in February 18th 1970 in Weston, Ontario. He had a normal childhood even if his parents split up when he was young. Before being the lead vocalist of Our Lady Peace, he studied at University of Toronto in criminology. In 1996, he met his wife, a formal singer, Chantal Kreviazuk, at a Pearl Jam concert in Toronto. They got married in 1999. Since then, they have three sons born in 2004, 2005 and 2008. He wrote one solo album with his wife. In addition, “he spent time in Iraq working with War Child.” For me, it’s awesome to see our artists helping people and getting involved into causes.

Now, let’s get a history of the band. In 1991, Mike Turner, the guitarist at that time, put down an ad in the local newspaper in Toronto. Raine Michael Maida, the now lead vocalist and the writer, responded to the ad and wanted to join the band. After that, he changed his name for Raine because having two Mike’s in the band would be confusing. Raine’s vocal is known for his capacity to make high “vocal technique”. Raine’s voice is "erratic" and "truly unrivaled" He is able to make notes that no one is able to. In 1991, they recruited a young drummer, Jeremy who was 17 years old. The band had a couple turnaround of personnel. As a Raine’s friend, Duncan Coutts, the bassist, joined the band and he’s still part of the band. In March 1994, they released their first album called Naveed. The started to make tours in Canada, especially at Montreal, with I Mother Earth. In 1995, Naveed was released in the United States. At that point, from my personal view, the band became popular around the world. Naveed was a hit in Canada while Starseed, on the same album, became famous in the U.S.A. In 1997, they released Clumsy with their hit “Superman’s Dead” and “Clumsy”. This album “established Our Lady Peace as a leading band in the Canadian rock scene.” In addition to that, the band has sold 1 million of the two previous albums and they released a third one called “Happiness…Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch.” On this album, a few hits played on the radio such as “One Man Army”, “Thief” and “Is Anybody Home”. Approximatively, one year later, they released a fourth album called “Spiritual Machines”. Again, they had a few hits such as “In Repair” and “Life”. During the recording, they had to call the Pearl Jam’s drummer, Matt Cameron, because Jeremy was injured.

After the first four album, it looks like they have change their styles. They made four other albums, “Gravity”, “Healthy in Paranoid Times”, “Burn Burn” and “Curve”
