They said "no". The Scottish people rejected the independence of their country on the occasion of a historic referendum marked by a record turnout at the polls. This is a landslide victory of "no”. It was official on Friday, September 19th after the results came from 32 divisions. 55, 23 % of the population said no against 44, 70 % who said yes.

One of the two sides had to obtain more than 1.852.828 votes to win this referendum. Those in favour of independence obtained 1.617.989 voices versus 2.001.926 voices against. The turnout at the polls was 84, 6 %. It is a record level.Those for independence admitted their defeat. Alex Salmond, leader of the Scottish freedom fighters, admits it: " The majority of people in Scotland do not want it to become an independent country " he said during a public speech in Edimburg.

According to Buckingham Palace, the English press relates, Queen Elizabeth II should express herself in a press conference this afternoon. On Friday, Queen Elizabeth II had called the British people for unity. She said : " Knowing the Scottish people, I have no doubt that they, like the other people through the United Kingdom, are able to keep a spirit of mutual respect even if they have very different opinions”, insisted the sovereign in a solemn written message, a rare approach.
