Victorian Age

The Victorian Age is Queen Victoria's period of reign in England which lasted sixty-years, from 1837 to 1901. it is the most longest reign in British History. This period is known as the apogee of the British Empire. Indeed, it is a period of prosperity when the population of the country doubled from 16 millions to 32 millions of inhabitants. Queen Victoria's reign knew lots of new reforms in order to improve the way of living of the British people such as laws to regulate child labor. Soon, London became the most important city of the world with 2.5 millions of inhabitants. It was also a huge era of development as long as it was the first country where the Industrial Revolution appeared. Transports and communication were then developed with the appearance of the railway, steamships or the telegraph. Thanks to this, the country is much more united. Moreover, thanks to its several colonies all around the world, England was also an important commercial power and had lots of influences in some other countries such as China. At the queen's death in 1901, the British Empire is the principal economical and military power in the world. Therefore, the power of England is brought into question by the United-States of America and Germany.
