Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, dancer, singer-songwriter, and musician. Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time. The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.
Jackson popularized a number of dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style have influenced numerous hip hop, pop, R&B and rockartists.
Jackson's 1982 album Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. His other records, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous(1991), and HIStory (1995), were also rank among the world's best-selling.

Between 1982 and 1996, he was certified to 25 million copies in the United States and 20 millions abroad. In May, 1984, Thriller is recognized by the Book Guinness of the records as the most sold album of every time and the current estimations vary between 65 and 118 million copies. With Thriller, Michael Jackson takes aways eight rewards to American Music Awards and eight in Grammy Awards and November 20th, 1984, he obtains a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 1987, Michael Jackson takes out the album Bad and the part for the first time on a world tour without his brothers. Bad was the most sold second album of every time with more than 34 million copies worldwide among which 10 in the United States and 5 in England, unequalled record. Bad is another enormous success for Jackson. Even if the album does not reachthe records of sales of Thriller, hecontains nevertheless more " number 1 ".
