Peter Robert Jackson is a New Zealand film director, producer, actor and screenwriter. He was born on 31 October 1961. He grew up in Pukerua Bay, a coastal town near Wellington. His father was a wages clerk and his mother was a factory worker and housewife. He hasn’t any brothers and sisters. He was interested in the cinema from a very early age. In 1987, though he was only 26, he played and directed his first independent movie, a 92 minute horror, whose name is Bad Taste. In 1989, he turned and played in the film Meet the Feebles. Three years later (1992), he directed and acted in the film Braindead, a horror movie and comic. In 1994 he shot the film Heavenly Creatures and in 1995 he codirected Forgotten Silver. One year later (1996), he signed with Universal studios to create the film The Frighteners. With the studios New Line Cinema, he directed and started in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in 2002 and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003. Then, in 2005, with Universal Studios, he turned and acted in the movie King Kong and in 2011 he produced the film The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn with Steven Spielberg. He got a golden globe for his trilogy of Lord of the Rings, three Oscars for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003 and he was nominated 12 times. On 30 December 2009, Peter Jackson was made a Knight of the Order of Merit of New Zealand by the queen Elisabeth two. The prize was attributed to his services to the cinema.
