Subject: Kerala tour packages

Hello mister Brenard,

I am contacting you because I’ve been sent to Kerala by the office, to visit sustainable holidays to include in our Kerala tour packages. Kerala is located in southwest tip of India; it is one of the luscious green coastal lands of southwest India. The holiday was very peaceful and sustainable. I went to Kerala backwaters which have a unique ecosystem. The freshwater from these rivers meets the seawater at the Arabian Sea. The salt water from the sea will prevent the freshwater to entering into deep inside the Sea and keeping the fresh water intact. It is one of the many sustainable things that Kerala offers because the fresh water is extensively used for irrigation purposes, which make the perfect place for the most aquatic life (crabs, frog and water birds). I also went to see the KarmaKettuvalam Eco Houseboat. With no engine you move at the speed of the punts that propel you quickly along the small canals in this unexplored corner of backwaters. This cruise was eco-friendly and tranquil. They also propose single romantic cabin without engines and generators, you ca shower with cold/lukewarm water. During the day they recharge batteries using solar panels. In Kerala, meals are traditionally eaten using fingers, from plate that consists of a fresh banana leaf. There is less rubbish, dishes and less water use. The previous reasons are one of many others which make Kerala a sustainable place for holidays. I think we should include Kerala in our package tour. It is a peaceful, conscious, healthy and respectful place. It is perfect for eco-tourism. I hope you will travel with those previous words and accept my demand. I am so honored for had been choosed to visit Kerala. Such a nice discover.

Best regards,

Sarah

Part II :

You will write a short introduction for a brochure on Kerala promoting the importance of sustaining Kerala’s intangible heritage.

  • Present three examples of Kerala’s intangible heritage
  • Emphasize the importance of local community involvement
  • Explain how both tourists and local benefit from these cultural events

Introduction:

Kerala has many intangible heritages, Art is one of them. Kerala has a rich cultural heritage. Sculpture, music, and dance are all seen in the historic development of Kerala’s cultural traditions. There is also ‘’Ayuveda” which is a tradition system of healing that has been practiced in India for centuries. The Nagajuna Ayurdevic Center offers traditional, scientific and authentic ayurvedic treatments specific to the patient’s ayurvedic constitution. You also have Fairs and festivals which are an integral part of the colorful culture of Kerala. The Elephant Festival is among the most popular festivals of Kerala. The importance of local community involvement is important because they can share their culture, countryside life, traditional skills and knowledge with us; they are respectful and know the value of their land. The cultural events are both benefit for tourists and local. For tourism, Kerala is a destination for from people from world over who seek a better way of life. It’s a mental, spiritual voyage whereas for locals, tourism is important for the economy. If they are involved in the tourism economy they will preserve environment and nature heritages. We can both take advantages from these cultural events by being respectful as locals are.

Part III :

You will make an outline for a poster encouraging sustainable tourism in the state of Kerala. The poster will emphasize the three aspects of sustainability covered in the set of documents.

Sustainable tourism is the concept of visiting somewhere as a tourist and trying to make a positive impact on the environment, society, and economy. Kerala has three important aspects of sustainability, first the fact that they are not using engine for their boat. That reduces pollution. They use natural dishes and cold water. This makes less rubbish and more biodegradable things. They provide vegetarian meals which is important because it reduces the consummation of meat.
