Lenny in Of Mice and Men

Lennie and his puppy    

Lennie killed the puppy, not on purpose, as he did with mice. He says that the puppy was going to bite him and then tried to smack it and it ended up dead. He’s now afraid that George won’t let him tend rabbits and tries to figure out how he can escape to the situation.

How is Curley’s wife represented? 

“I never get to talk to nobody. I get awfully lonely”. She also says that she can’t talk to anyone or else Curley would get mad at her. She managed to talk to Lennie and starts to comfort him. She seems to be an understanding character which contrasts to the other sections where she was just provocative.

Then, she says“I coulda made something for myself. Maybe I will yet”. She seems to be regretful, but she also seems to be stuck in a fateful situation. She mentions the fact that she missed an opportunity to become an actress when she was fifteen. Also, she met a man who promised her to get her in the movies, but he never actually did. Therefore, she got married with Curley as a default choice whereas she doesn’t even like him. She has always been dreaming about a fancy life but her current life is a disillusionment.

What about Lennie and George' meeting so far

I feel like George and Lennie have been a little bit split up since George is hanging more with Curley’s crew and Lennie with Candy, Curley’s wife and Crooks. For example, he didn’t go to the brothel with him and he’s alone with Curley’s wife while George and the other are playing the horseshoe.

I think George is going to find Lennie and they will run away together to another ranch maybe. Or maybe George is going to steal money from the bunkhouse before going in order to pay to have the piece of land and rabbits for Lennie, so it’s an happy ending.
