MYTHS AND HEROES

I’m going to talk about the theme myths and heroes.
First of all, I would like to give a definition of the notion :  a myth is an action or a story which stays in memory and which may serves to explain foundations of our society.
Also, a hero is a person who is admired for his courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. It can be the main character in a book or a film or a person with superhuman qualities. It can also be a modern-day hero, a person who has performed a heroic act or simply our own personal hero. A hero is someone inspiring and he can communicates values ; such as respect, brotherhood..Moreover, most of the time, myths are created by heroes.
In order to illustrate this notion,  we will ask ourselves, how did heroes evolve?  How an ordinary person can become a hero admired by all of us ? And we will see what is a cotemporary hero

First of all, I think that before,  a hero was more a fictional character than now, like for example in greeks myths. Moreover, especially after the 2nd World war with the arrival of cartoons a hero was generally someone with superhuman qualities, who fights the villains and who never dies.
Besides, to support my remarks, I can tell you about a video we studied in which we saw a journalist who told us about  the evolutions of heros, he said that when he was a child, a hero was somebody close to « spiderman » or a fictional character with strenght and power.
Indeed, to me, those heroes were a kind of model for the youngest. And they’re joins the point of view to Joseph Campbell : according to him, they’re used to follow a pattern, which is in 12 steps (some of them are for example the enter to a special world, challenge, face to death,…)  and which applies to any films or books.
So Obviously this kind of heroes  still exist, but I think that they have evolved, I believe that now heroes can be anyone of us, there is no need to be superman to be admired by everybody.

Secondly I’m going to tell you how nowadays an ordinary person can make the world a better place, and how this person can become a hero.
Of course these types of heroes existed before too, for instance Martin Luther King or Rosa Sparks… But now, these heroes are more and more present and recognized especially thanks to the expansion of medias.
Indeed , heroes evolve with society : now, a lot of people become known and become heroes for many people around the world : like for example singers on Youtube, or even actors.
So actually, we studied two documents that can be relied to the ‘everydays heroes’.
First, we saw a video about Malyk and how he became a hero in a short time. Indeed, the life of a hero begins with a insignificant act : Malyk saw a young girl being mistreated by her boyfriend, so he followed them and he managed to call the cops to save her, he quickly became a hero in his counrty , admired by all citizens.
I think it’s an awesome story because he is Someone who keeps his fears to himself but share his courage with the other people and for that he is a hero.
The Second document that We saw was a video about street medecine, it’s a team of doctors and social worker who helps homeless people to survive by giving them food, water, blankets and medecine if they desire it. We saw differents people getting help : a man who has pressure problems, a women in a very bad shape… I found it very moving and I think that now, this is these people who are real heroes and they deserve more attention, because they have made heroism their job and they manage to make people happy. And I believe that it is in the small gestures of everyday life that we recognize the heroes.
