Scene 6 : Gatsby's death and Gatsby's funeral
Place: A swimming pool
List of characters: Gatsby, Jack (the butler) and Wilson
List of accessories: A table, chairs, a breakfast
Whereas Gatsby, for the first time of the summer, allowed himself to enjoy his swimming pool, his butler Jack called him in order to tell it that his breakfast was ready. The young man was about to go out of his swimming pool when a bang was heard and Gatsby had just the time to understand the words that Wilson was shouting to him: “This is for Myrtle!”. Jack, afraid by this abnormal sound, turned around and he attended the sudden drop in Gatsby, powerless. This one, quietly staring into space, became quickly a red stain in the pure blue of the swimming pool. The butler collapsed in tears and after twenty minutes, doctors arrived whereas the coffee was getting cold.
Place: A church
List of characters: Nick, Gatsby's father and a priest
List of accessories: A coffin, many chairs
When I arrived in front of the church, I saw a man alone, certainly Jay's father. He seemed to be sad but not as much as a father who had just lost his son.
“-Thank you for coming. I suppose that Jimmy was very important for you.
-Oh, yes very important. When was the last time that you saw him?
-2 years. I felt bad because we argued but Jimmy knew that I loved him. And it's the most important.
-I think Jay was loving you too.
-There's nobody here. Why ?
-Oh, Gatsby didn't have a lot of friends... His sweetheart has gone and didn't love many people.
-That's my son!
-Sir, the priest is here.
-Good morning. If we are here today, it's for James Gatsby. Mr Gatsby was a strong and handsome man. Unfortunaly, his life stoped too early. A stupid crime and he left us. Sincere condolence on your son's and friend's passing. I'm sorry.”
One hour later, the coffin was carried on the cimetery and some words were prononced to pay tribute to my very dear Gatsby. We threw roses on his coffin and, strangely, his father took me in his arms when I started to cry. Because I realized that I won't be able to see him again.
