For the notion location and form of power we studied the theme of Higher Education.
We can ask ourselves to what extent higher education is a form of selection for students. In my first part I will deal with the power of money then I will talk about the power given to the individual and finally I will show that this power is not given to everybody.
As we saw in class the news report of CNN about British student's discontent over a raise the limits of university tuition. Having a degree require a huge effort but this ambition is being jeopardized by the raise the limits of university tuition. This act will reduce drastically reduce the diversity of people in university. In the future people will be buying their degree. It will become a status symbol not students who do a hard work. However bursaries help poor families sent their children to university.
Universities can encourage personal development. They are means of charge and mobility. You can meet other people. You can discover new thing, a different way to see the world, even the new you, who you truly are as we saw the document " Whats the matter with that kid". Chapter Eleven changed his style physically and mentally after upon entering college. That's a form of power given to individuals.
But this power is not given to everybody. We saw a PBS report, an American tv channel. This document presents the impact of higher tuition on students from the middle class. With the raised of the costs of a university has become really expensive. Rich people can pay for it. Poor people can receive scholarships and be helped by the government. But the middle class has a difficult position because they haven't money to pay tuition fees and they haven't help of the government to pay universities. They have to work a lot and get loans to to pay their studies.
In My personal opinion entering college should be an option for everyone, not just for the rich people or smart people because there are so much students who doesn't have good grades in high school because education system requires that we be good at matters we are not. This doesn't means we can be not good in others thing we really enjoy doing.
I think everyone should have access to higher education just like we have access to school.
So we can conclude that money can give aces to elite institutions, universities allow us to meet other people and learn new things and poor families improve their social states sending their kids to university.
