Dull Knife's life :

He was a child of the tribe of the Cheyenne of the North, he was also very resourceful, honest and

simple. For example, when he was ninety years old, a herd of bisons spent in the camp installed near

one river. He took refuge with the shelter given up by a beaver which exceeded the water level and

waited for the end of the passage of bisons there. He was the custom that, during the travels of the tribe,

the old walk to the front to spot the place where to stop. One day, a grizzly bear took out undergrowth

to attack them. The young warrior came to the rescue and fought against the bear with his knife.

He fought often armed with his knife and once manages to beat an expanding enemy of a shield of

thick leather. The Cheyenne then won the name of "Dull Knife" (" Couteau Émoussé").

About the year 1875, the Americains started to imprison the Indians in the reservations for take theirs

land. The government wanted to make peace , but always with military protection. A little number

resisted, and announced the battle : le Chef Joseph des Nez-Percés, et le Chef Standing Bear des

Poncas, attracted their tribes to the USA and succeeded to get piece of zone and settled in. But Dull

Knife had not this chance . The authorities throught that he was a dangerous man, and he was with his

tribe without his agreements on indians reservations. But when he saw that his tribe was dying, he fled

with the agreemet of his tribe to their natal ground !

The route was long and precarious, it succeeded in reaching their native ground. But because of the

famine, some Indians betrayed Dull Knife and delivered his tribe to the soldiers. He was surrounded

and of go, with those who had followed him, to strong Robinson. The men were imprisoned and the

women kept for the camp. All were broken-hearted and did not wish to live anymore in these

conditions

The women were allowed to bring to the mens mocassins, and they bring in secret knives and guns to

them .The women and children were to join them. Not every one had a gun, but all had agreed to die

together. Finally, when they had not any guns, the soldiers shoot and all the Chayennes were dead in

this fight !
