Multicultural Britain :

United Kingdom is ethnically diverse country with many different communities that reflects the multicultural nature of United Kingdom :

Southall Broadway is a district at west London and has one of the largest Asian populations in London.

Migrants in Britain :

Most british people’s families are from over the seas and over the centuries, people are coming from all over the world in Britain :

In 1948, immigrants from Jamaica  came by ship.

In the 1950s and 1960s, families from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

In the 1970s, asian Ugandan refugees came.

In the 1990s ppl from Somalio.

And in the recent years, Eastern european citizens came looking for jobs/ searching for work.

            So this cultural variety  make Britain, a vibrant place to be.[pic 1][pic 2][pic 3][pic 4]

But there’s some problems between cultures and generations :

Young people who’s parents or grandparents settleed down have a very different experience of growing up to their parents :

Sunny Garowell and his father Evenda live in the Southall : Evenda came from Kania and Sunny was born there

When Evenda first came it was hard because there weren’t jobs for peaople like him.

And then for Sunny it’s more equal for everyone because they’re part of the community and government.

When Sunny was little his dad wouldn’t let him have earings and have long ponytail because he had to look smart.

For Sunny, the best thing about living in Southall is the food, the different cultures bringing their spices and their experiences and even their rituals. And so getting a taste of the world.

Bringing different cultures and generations together :

In the past differences between communities have let to violence so to not leed again to violence they’ve made a new project to make a new community where different generations and cultures are together :

A school, in Cardiff, one of the most multicultural school with twenty langages spoken, get part in a project called « cities » that helps migrants, peole from other countries become part of the community :

The school children take pictures of people and places to show what is like to live in Cardiff.

And some of the kids get featured in the next exhibition called « open cities faces » like Mercy and Joy. :

They and their father Dereck are from Zambia , they came because Dereck , an engineering consultant was offered a job there and they lived there for 6years now.

They are getting part of this project because the project is a good sin and is trying to show something positive about migration and integration.

The project :  Mercy is photographed by a window to show the hopes for their future and a better life that they look forward to. And behind Mercy there is shadow to show their past and where they came from.

Now Dereck consider Cardiff to be his home because they’re now part of the communtity, they’ve settled down and think Cardiff is great.

So his project bring people together and give young people hope for their future.
