So according to them, the communists could hide anywhere, using their teaching posts, university professors, artists or journalists to help the program of world communist domination. Seeing a communist spy behind every personality in the country like Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, who nevertheless claimed their innocence, were sentenced to the electric chair. But also Charlie Chaplin, suspected of communist sympathies, he was therefore blacklisted in Hollywood, it is a practice of refusing to employ all artists who were accused of having communist ties or sympathies. Or Kirk Douglas, an actor, blacklisted after opposing the Communist hunt in Hollywood. This paranoia about the internal communist threat, what we call red fear, is led by Senator McCarthy. Faced with paranoia in American opinion, a fear of communism has taken hold. But it doesn’t stop there, it concerns all walks of life, including workers, thousands of people have lost their jobs .. and the others feared that including me. Yes, some were losing their jobs after refusing to report people on communist activities. But most, to get out of this situation, denounce others for fear of being accused. Yes, this phenomenon terrifies me, to see my work, my life completely ruined by this witch hunt. When all the denunciations multiplied, either by a senator or a committee or a member of Congress, it created a climate of fear and suspicion across the country. At any time anyone could be accused of Communist or sympathizer and suffer the consequences even if they are false accusations like for Ethel and Julius Rosenberg ... Yes because you know, the accusations were generally fabricated and rested on unreliable rumors, denunciations, prejudices or testimonies. I wonder when it will end, the systematic and mass prosecution, persecution and sentencing of people unjustly accused. Why me ? The atmosphere was becoming so heavy that my mind was troubled, I no longer know who I am and what I am doing. I imagine the worst, the worst is possible. The following? A random massacre game. We all devour each other to save ourselves, black lists circulate. Anticommunist paranoia is going well, finding me accused in my turn. And now I see the "hunters" arrived and I saw my ruin begin and never stop.
