The Ford Motor Company, more often referred to as Ford, is an American multinational automaker. It was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903. The company sells automobiles and commercial vehicles under the Ford brand, and most luxury cars under the Lincoln brand.

Ford introduced methods for large-scale manufacturing of cars and large-scale management of an industrial workforce using elaborate manufacturing sequences characterized by moving assembly lines; by 1914, these methods were known around the world as Fordism.

In the early days, Ford built automobiles the same way its competitors of the day, one by one, as others built houses. During the entire assembly, the vehicle remains in place while the mechanics and their helpers collect the components, return to the car on the job site and fix these sub-assemblies to the chassis.

A little later, the cars are assembled on platforms that are moved from one working group to another. This approach speeds up the assembly method somewhat, but Ford continues to need skilled labor to build "by hand". Production levels are therefore relatively modest and the price of cars remains high to cover personnel costs.

Groups of two or three worked on each car, assembling it from parts made primarily by suppliers contracting for Ford. Within a decade, the company would lead the world in expanding and refining the assembly line concept, and Ford soon brought much of the part production in-house.

Henry Ford fulfilled his dream of producing a reasonably priced, reliable and efficient automobile with the T in 1908. This vehicle revolutionized the automobile. It is easy to drive and maintain and performs well on bad roads. He thus knows an immediate success.

By combining precision, continuity and speed, mass production has just been born. At the Highland Park plant, the Ford T breaks efficiency records when the stopwatch measures a completed car is produced every 10 seconds of working days. Ford is then able to reduce the selling prices, doubling the daily minimum wage which reaches 5 dollars. Ford thus allows its workers to also be able to claim the purchase of an automobile. At that time, two million Ford T's were produced each year and offered to the public at $ 260.
