There is many way of travelling. From visiting you’re grandmother house in the country that’s a few miles away from your place to visiting a country that’s thousand miles away from your place. There is also many traveler type. The one who travel few time a year and the one who travel become a life job. Those ones have great story to tell that might inspire us more than we think.
The traveler who inspired me the most is Maria Leijerstan, a British woman. She’s a truly inspiring woman. At the age of 31 she quitted everything, her job, her husband, her family and she started her own adventure sport company. The reason that she inspired me the most is she gave up on everything to follow her dream.
Before she did quit her job, she did a lot of travelling experience which involved mostly cycling running or kayaking. Her first move was to cycle the length of New Zealand in 23 days. She’s also done six marathons in seven days in the Sahara Desert and cycled more than 600km across Siberia’s frozen Lake Baikal. Then she took her dream further away and decided to become the first person to cycle in South Pole.
This was her big change, her lifetime experience. To make it possible, she helped to design the bike she was going to ride. It gave her a great advantage over her competitors who wanted to be the first person to cycle in South Pole. The expedition cost her a lot and made her in debt since there is no profit from expedition, but that didn’t keep away from enjoying the excursion which she had to cycle over 17 hours a day.
The cold was her biggest challenge in her expedition. In South Pole, temperature could go under -30C. Even with her -50C down jacket, she still got frostbite. The one, who made her suffer the most, is the one on her feet. It didn’t matter how many socks she would put on, her feet were always cold.
After she reaches the finish line, she still had the energy to party New Year’s Eve. She also went ski-touring for her last two days!
In conclusion, Maria is a truly inspiring traveler. She left everything behind her in order to make her life more fulfilling. Even with some debts that she has to pay; Maria is pursuing her dream further away, no matter what.
