During the sequence wich entitled « this writer in his time » we studied plays, more particularly The Crucible and Clockwork Orange. We go to see how every authors denounce his time and in which it is effective.
The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller in 1953 ; in answer to the anti-communist hysteria created by the Committee of the anti-American activities. The story takes place in Massachussets during a dark time when took place one of the most incredible of all times trials ; that of the young girl Abigail Williams and the other girls of Salem, they are considered as witches but who are going to return little by little the accusers the ones to the others. Without taking really a real party or trying to explain the real reasons, Arthur Miller succeeds in showing the reality and the scale of such a historic drama by taking immense precautions as for the truthfulness of the facts. Madness and hysteria are very presents in play. It's a strong and hallucinating story on our.
Having said that, we also worked on another text so interesting and instructive.
Now let us speak of Clockwork Orange is a book written by Anthony Burgess then it was adapted in movie by Stanley Kubrick in 1971. We can consider this story as being a satire of society. Indeed, here what is presented it is the vision of an urban city where the young people took the power. The movie is also a little bit futuristic, we can see it thanks to suits which actors wear in the movie. It is also very violent. However there is a funny side and at the same time dramatic. In this movie, Stanley Kubrick especially seems to favor the unhealthy and disturbing climate which gets free, as well as the visceral side, rather than the visual graphic violence.
By means of these two plays I answered the problem which was to know how every author denounces his time and in who is it effective.
