Summary «An African story»

I am going to summarise story.

The story takes place in East Africa near the Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya. A young man which was a hunter travelled over the country to Nairobi and was training to be a pilot in the RAF because the second war begun. After five weeks he had a problem with his plane because he flew down low to see wild animals. He damaged the wing but he managed to go back to Nairobi.

After six weeks he had another trouble, an engine failure while he was making his first cross-country.

He did a forced landing and was far from a small hut where an old man was living there. He was kind, he gave him food, milk and a place to stay. He stayed with him during two days and nights until a rescue plane found his aircraft and reparated it. He could come back to Nairobi but he stayed with the old man. He was alone and glad to have company. He spoke a lot with the pilot and told him a strange story which the pilot wrote when he came Nairobi. When he died, killed in training, they found the text in his things and the narator decided to keep it.

Now, we are in the « second » story which the pilot had written.

The old man went out and walked to the Judson’s hut because he heard a cry of a dog. The dog was lying on the floor and Judson was sleeping. The old man went down the dog and moved its body. The animal lay still, looking at him with sad eyes. The old man took an iron bar and brought it down in the dog’s head. He did this because Judson broke its neck and the poor dog was suffering. Judson killed it because he could stand noises that did the animal. One day, Judson noticed that the cow had no milk. First the old man thought that he has stolen it but Judson said perhaps somebody came during the night and stole the milk. In the evening, the cow was full and next morning she was again empty. The third night, the old man decided  to watch out as soon as it began to get dark. After a few hours he heard something moving on the grass and he saw a black Mamba (it’s a snake). He decided to not strike the animal and he kept watching it. The snake raised and the front part of its body and began to drink the milk. The cow did not move. In the morning, Judson said the old man that there is no milk again and he answered him that it could be a native boy. During the night, the old man sat again et kept watching out to be sure that the snake will come again. After a few hours the snake came and drank the milk. In the morning the old man did not say to Judson that it is a snake who drinks the milk and the said him that he must dig a shallow hole and stay during the night. At first, he did not agree because the cow is going to make noise that he could not stand but finally he dug the hole. Then the old man invited him in his hut. Judson was surprised because it was the first time. They drank some tea and the old man did a noise that disturbed Judson and he told him to stop. The old man asked him how many dogs did Judson kill. At first, he did not answer but after he told him that he killed only those who made noise. After a while, the moon came and the old man told Judson that it’s better get ready. Judson went to the hole and stayed in it. After a moment, judson told him that the cow is making a noise but the old man answered that he will shoot him if got up. Then the old man heard the snake coming and told Judson that the robber is coming and he must to be ready. Finally, Judson lifted his head quickly and looked up, he saw the snake and the snake saw him and bit him. Judson died and the old man was glad of his revenge.
