An primary election is an election which allows to designated delegate people in a political party for an upcoming general election.
Every four years, the united states organized this “primary election” under different ways ;
“the closed primary” where candidates can be elected only by their registered party member.
and “the open primary” where all voters can take part through the selections and choose any party.
Once few delegates persons are chosen to represent their political party, they should elect someone who can become the next president from among their party, during the national convention.
As we know this elections have requirements which stipulate that candidates can be elected only if they are natural born citizen of the united states at least 35 years old or completing 14 years of residency.
Once the candidate is elected to represent his political party and may be next, the nation, he needs to convince the population to elect him from the general election thanks to his campaign and the media canvassing. (solicitation) such as campaign poster, public debates… which starts the first september weekend after he was elected.
Then, the american citizens can vote the first tuesday of november in each state to choose their electoral college composed of 538 electors who came to elects the president and vice president of the United states in december in the senate of Washington.

This year Hillary Clinton is at the side of the democratic party against Donald trump who represent the republican party.
Both of them need to defend their political platform. It's the reason why they uses the medias which are an important way for them to spread (propager) their ideas.
The candidate will explain his opinion, project and his achievement to become close to the population. He should be depicted (représenté) as an exemplary person who will protect the nation, support the US values, fight against the poverty…
Sometimes the two candidates are confronted in public debates face to face.
