Today, I’m glad to present you a hero.                                                               In my first part, I’m going to make a brief reminder of the historical context, then.I will describe the struggle of this hero and we will see how he has marked the history by his pacifist action.                                                   Finally, I will give you my opinon about this person.

A hero is someone who inspires people thanks to his noble qualities. This mytic man was born in 1918 in South Africa. He was one of the historic leaders of the fight against the blacks’ discrimination and was the first black president of South Africa. He was awarded the Nobel Peace in 1993. This person is Nelson Mandela.

In 1918, this country was a colony of the British Empire and was ruled by the white government. This government had created a political and social system where only whites had political rights. In 1948, the right-wing National Party came to power and set up the separation between blacks and whites “legal”. This separation is called the “apartheid”.

In the text “Nelson Mandela : a biography” it traces the life of Nelson Mandela. We learn that the latter has became lawyer at a time where blacks had a little access to education. He then started the policy and its fight against the apartheid. He quickly became the enemy of the government, thus he spent 27 years in prison but never stopped fighting and that is why he is a beloved person of all South Africans.

Moreover, I had the opportunity to see the film Invictus who referred to the year 1994 when Nelson Mandela's election marked the end of apartheid. However, South Africa remains a deeply divided racially and economically nation. To unify the country and give each citizen a source of pride, Mandela put on the sport, and made common cause with the captain of the modest South African rugby team. Their challenge: to report to the World Championship in 1995.

This film shows all Mandela's values and the message he wants to convey. It is a model of courage and determination.

I did not choose Nelson Mandela by chance. It represents courage and strength to everyone. This is someone who made history. For me, Mandela was a very important person, he struggled all his life to kill apartheid never

give up.
