The expected length in an essay for this class is 120 words minimum.

Count your words and write down the number.

Structure your work and try to balance the different parts:                        Introduction 20 words

                                                                                First part 40 words

                                                                                Second part 40 words

                                                                                Conclusion 20 words

THE DEVELOPMENT

1. Structure your arguments

• Usually, there are 2  parts to an essay.
• Those parts express opposed arguments, starting with the opinion you don't share.

Or those parts can add up to build a one-sided opinion.

• Linkwords are essential to make your reasoning clear.
• Go to the next line for each idea and skip a line for each part.
• Explain your point of view and illustrate it with examples.

1. Find the  logical order of these arguments, and find the 2 parts with the help of the linkwords:

Subject: What are the advantages and drawbacks of taking a gap year ?

a. As a result, they are less likely to drop out of university or choose the wrong job.

b. Besides, it enables them to gain self-confidence and significant work and life experience.

c. What's more, taking a gap year means leaving one's friends and family behind, and that may prove difficult in a faraway country.

d. First of all, taking a gap year enables students to meet new people and gain maturity.

e.  To top it all, if you take a gap year, your friends will have moved on, your study skills will have diminished and you will be behind them.

f. It also offers students a wider perspective and clearer vision of their future work direction.

g. However, you need to get well-organized or you risk losing the benefits of the gap year.

1. Choose a topic, and write a few simple sentences using linkwords each time.  Try to find a leading question (problématique) if you can:

Ex. Movies → Is watching movies a waste of time ?

For a start, I really enjoy going to the movies.

Indeed, I find them entertaining.

Besides, they reflect society.

However, watching them is time-consuming.
