MYTHS AND HEROES
I’m going to introduce the notion « myths and heroes ». First of all, I will define what a myth and what a heroe is. Myths are things we think is true but maybe not. Some myths may have started as ‘true’ stories but people changed them by lies, or to make them more interesting. All cultures have myths and this mythology has been developed over time. A hero it's someone who has did insane things with his strength or bravery. It's also someone who is a role for other people. So, we may wonder is: do myths and heroes influence people's careers?
To answer this question, I’m going to talk about a text entitled “A track to follow” to Robin Olds and next, I’m going to talk about Steven Spielberg’s career.
The document “A track to follow” speaks about a pursuit pilot. This document represents one of the famous American fighter aces: Edward Rickenbacker. He looks relaxed and proud of himself because he helps and defends his country by taking risks each and every day and by putting his life in danger for his fellow citizens. When reading this text one cannot but notice that the narrator, Robin Olds admires pilots and that he draws the portrait of his father who was like a hero, a role model for him. It must be added that the father of the narrator is someone who made him want to become a flying ace. To put in a nutshell, the narrator was clearly influenced by his father. We can see thanks to this document that hero can influence career of people. Here, Robin Olds was clearly influenced by his father. His father is like a hero, an icon for him. Robin Olds career was influenced by his father. It’s an example that heroes can influence people career.
Steven Spielberg he's an American film director and producer. At the age of 5, he saw his first feature film and since, his interest for the cinema has never stopped. At 13, he won his first short picture contest. At 16, he produced Firelight and he gets an award. At the age of 21, Spielberg directed his first TV movie. This shows how determined are resourceful he was. He managed to make several short pictures without getting into a film school. Eventually, he set up his own office in the back lots of universal studios.
