Forms and locations of power

Im going to present the notion « forms and locations of power » and firstly i need to explain what did means the title of this notion.

It is the ability to control others, events, or resources; the ability to make things happen despite obstacles, resistance, or opposition. This of course leads to conflict between those who have power and those who don’t.

In class we studied this notion with the theme of the power of guns in America.

We saw several documents abouts this.

• first document : we saw that number of deaths by guns is very bigger in America in comparaison with the other countries.

• second document : we can see children they're going to school, they're bearing rifles. They look like robots. The objective is to show how it's easy for anyone to get a firearm in America.

• third document : article from the scotsman newspaper comparing the scotish mindset to the american mindset. In Scotland after the massacre of Dumblane, firearms were banned entirely and more than 160000 were destroid. In contrary, in America after the Virginia Tech massacre, the reaction wasn't the same. Indeed, some commentaters said that the problem wasn't that there is too many guns in America, but too few.

• We alsow saw that americans have the right to bear arms. It's written in the American constitution.

Then we read the pamphlet of Sarah Brady. Sarah Brady lost her husband by gun violence. That's the first reason for what she created the Brady Campaign. She's the against the National Rifle Association.

She's asking to the president and to the autorities en general to do something. For her, Obama must use his power to stop all this violence.

She wants them to make more controls.

Afterwards we saw a video of a speach of the CEO of the NRA.

In his speach he's saying that our children aren't protected and in his mind, we must make firearms in schools to defend our children, like we protect our money in banks, there is alsow firearms in banks.

He said too that, the Brady Campaing is trying to make them look like monsters.

Finally, we read an interview. A woman was saying that every American women should own a gun. She is saying that because her friend was raped, and she thinks if she had a gun, she could have stopped the attack. She's saying that taser and pepper spray aren't usefull because they're not easy to use. They needs to be close to the attacker for the pepper spray, and the Taser gives us only one chance.

After all, I think that guns are a form of power because we can protect ourselves with it. But they are many drowbacks like deaths etc..

I think we must ban entirely guns and even if bad guys can procure, the power of the law will deal with it.
