The unemployment
When Barack Obama was elected, the USA was in recession and the unemployment rate was about 8 %, that's why during Barack Obama’s first 13 months of presidency, the economy lost 4.3 million jobs knowing that in the 12 months before he took office, 4.4 million jobs were lost. . Since June 2014, all of the jobs lost in The Big Recession had been recovered and since that time, the United States economy has added an additional of two million jobs in the economy. The unemployment rate, is down to 4.9%, this number essentially indicates that the economy has returned to a full employment.
It is also worth noting that during the 2012 presidential election, Obama's opponent, Mitt Romney, promised to lower the unemployment rate to 6% by the end of 2016. President Obama succeeded at lowering unemployment at less than 6% but 2 earlier than the date promised by Romney.
The stock exchange (La Bourse)
Since early 2009, there was a trend of steady increase in the growth of the stock market. For example, the Dow Jones (which is an equivalent of the CAC 40 in France) hit a record never reached with 18,292 point in May 2015.
The budget deficit
The federal budget deficit that Obama inherited in 2009 was due to the high rate of unemployment. In fact, When millions of people were put out of work in 2008 and 2009, it resulted much less income taxes and consequently less economic activity to generate federal receipts. Seeing as eleven millions of people get back to employment, there has been billions of dollars more of taxes generated. As a result, the deficit has been shrinking each year during the two Obama's terms.
Less expenditures under Obama's mandates
Under president Obama, government expenditures has increased of 3,3% annually and it's far less than president Reagan with a rate of 8,7% or Geoge W Bush with 8.1%.
Reducing income taxe
President Obama had adopted several tax cuts to stimulate the economy. For 95% of American taxpayers, income taxes are as low, or even lower than what they were during the 50 last years. The only people whose income taxes have increased during the Obama presidency are those who earn 400,000$ a year or more.
Conclusion : The two Obama's terms were full of advances whether it be at the level économic, social or diplomatic. We think that he was overall a good president even if during his 8 years of presidency, he also known failures. For example, he failed to close the Guantanamo penitenciary, he also failed in making the USA a less racist country than it was in 2009. To conclude we can say that he did a lot of good things but like in all the presidency he also did mistakes. So know Obama give way to Donald Trump, so we wanted to ask you a question : Do you think Trump will do better than Obama?
