Introduction:

The notion Myths ans Heroes can be defined by, a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding or noble qualities. It can be the main character in a book, a film... And a myth is a story that may or not may be true. These stories are passed down from generation to generation.

How can ordinary people, trough their extraordinary actions become myths ?

In order to answer the problematic we will see in the first place the first ones documents, Rosa Parks quote and Malala quote, then we will see Rosa Parks article and Bus image.

I. People standing up for their beliefs or through acts of kindness and the impact they have on today’s society.

As we have said, there are many different types of heroes and today I will explain how ordinary people through their extraordinary actions can become myths. First, in class, we looked at how some ordinary people can become heroes through advocating for current issues such as human rights, women’s rights or environmental rights, or though their acts of kindness. An example is Mark Bustos who provides free haircuts to the homeless, in NYC. These people try to educate others and their actions help make the world a better place. Rosa Parks, through her brave deeds, became a hero to black women and men all over the world. In the first image we can read one of Rosa’s quotes where she states that she was tired of giving in. This heroic action was not only for her, but for people suffering racial discrimination all over the world. A more modern example is Malala Yousafzai, who risked her life to fight for girls’ education everywhere. In the second image, we can read a quote from Malala’s Nobel Prize Speech in wich she explains she decided to advocate because it’s not only her story, but the story of thousands of girls. Through their actions, these brave women have helped thousands of people all over the world and their importance on today’s and our future society will keep them alive as myths.

II. How these people turn from heroes to myths.

The myth of Rosa Parks is present everyone’s mind today as a symbol of racial equality. In the article by The Los Angeles Times, we can read how 10 years after refusing to give her seat on a bus, Rosa Parks was still unknow to some but considered by others as the Mother of the Civil Rights movement. As the years passed, not only did herheroic action continue to be spoken about but also, she became an example and role model for peaceful protest in the world. In the third image, we can see how she inspired the « Freedom Ride » in Sydney in 1965 to fight for Aboriginal rights in Australia and many other protests in Bristol and Northern Ireland. Malala is following Rosa’s footsteps and at her young age has already won a Nobel Peace Prize. Both of these women are perfect examples of how ordinary people can become heroes through their extraordinary actions and then turn into myths that we will tell from generation to generation.

Conclusion:

To conclude, the notion myths and heroes influences past and future societies. After studying the 4 documents, we notice that heroes change things in the world.
