Anglais - Myths and Heroes: Are women the new Heroes of the United States ?

I’m going to talk about the notion of “Myths and Heroes”.

First of all I would like to give a definition of myths and heroes. A myth is a story often linked to religion, It is generally based on the legend. The legend is a story based on real facts that includes part of truth and that usually involves heroic characters. The hero is a main character of a story. In general, the hero helps the others because he has values and the heroes are known for their acts.

Are women the new Heroes of the United States ?

On the first part, I'm going to talk about the stereotypes, and on the second part, I'm going to talk about a changing image.

1. The stereotypes

1. during the war : soldiers = heroes
2. the new heroes after the WWII : actors ( James Dean in Giant ) and professional heroes ( firefighters during 9/11 )

1. during the WWII : ( Rosie the riveter, Professor Higgs )
2. after the war : the way to feminism
3. since the 70's : more and more struggles against gender discrimination ( Women firefighters )

To conclude, today, in American society, women have a more important role, and they become increasingly heros. However it is the men who occupy the highest place in society and they are favored unlike women. Finally I think that sexual discimination is still very present in the US despite many women's efforts to show their importance in society.
