Essay on why Lord of war is a example of globalization

In 2005, Lords of war was released, the chadian civil war started and the Mount Elgon insurgency. How are they linked ? Arms. Lords of war tells us the story of a international arm dealer selling weapons of all kinds everywhere in the world.

Globalization is the worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration.

Is this enough to be considered a example of globalization ?

The transactions made by the « hero », Yuri Orlov, are by nature globalized. He buys firearms from a country and sells it to a other : his AK-47 are russians and yet sells them to liberia.Furthermore one of the signs of globalization is containerisation of goods. This is portrayed in the movie, when mr orlov is hiding his weapons in rotting potatoes in a container on a cargo.

The main character takes globalization a step further by saying : «  you’re not a true internationalist if you didn’t sell weapons to kill your own compatriote. »

Indeed, Lord of war is a good example of globalization since it’s the story of a man offering a demanded product from a certain country, arms, all around the world using different means. From this example we can ask ourselves is this hollywoodian vision of globalization truly objective ?
