Norman Rockwell was a American painter born in New York city in 1894 and he lived in the 20th century.
He went to high school and student’s league, then, he is still famous for his 321 original cover illustrations of the Saturday Evening Post magazine. He mainly posted scenes of everyday small town life, and he also treated serious subjects such as racism and injustice.
It’s the hyper realism artistic movement he belonged.
The names of some famous works of Norman Rockwell are “The runaway”, “The gossips” and “Freedom from want”
On the “The runaway” painting, we can see a little boy sitting on a chair, next to a policeman, they are looking at each other.
The barman, on the background, is looking at the little boy too.
We understand: The little boy is a runaway, because he’s alone without his parents, and because there is a bundle of clothes on the floor.
The most beautiful, on this painting, it’s the nice complicity between this boy and the policeman.
On “The gossips” painting, we can see so many faces, this faces are opposed and they are chatting and are transmitting a message.
Some people are shocked, other are laughing or smiling. There are face to face or talk by phone. We understand they are talking about the same things:
This new thing going from someone to an other people.
Among this people, the old people are much represented.
The thing they’re talking about is a gossip.
Then, the concerned people finished by hear this rumor and found the person who started this.
And, the “Freedom from want” painting represents a typical Thanksgiving dinner; we understand that due to the family, smiling, sitting around a great repast; but, mainly due to the huge turkey that we see in foreground. This turkey will be placed on the table.
The family is consisting of the grandparents, well dressed, who are standing; some adults and teenagers, then, a child.
On this table, we can also see jelly, salt and pepper, fruits, napkins, and nice silverware.
