Hello everybody , my name is gulara , it means moonlight in aborigenes , and i am your guide to visit the heart of australia , uluru and i will guide you on the mala walk
Before going into more detail about the park and Uluru I am going to mention that some of the areas in the park around Uluru are considered sacred to the traditional owners and cannot be visited or photographed out of respect for the Anangu ( owners of uluru) there is also places that are forbidden for men and others are forbidden for women .
If possible, please do not climb the rock, it is considered sacred and it is a demanding exercise that requires a lot of effort . The climb is steep and arduous and many people have died attempting it .
Also please Take all your rubbish away with you and of course Do not take sand, rocks, plants or anything else from the park . you should also Stick to walks and paths they are clearly marked.
So please act like a responsible tourist , respect the locals and the culture .
That being said let talk about a much more interesting subject uluru , the aborigines and their culture and then i will take you on the mala walk.
Uluru or Ayers Rock is one of the most impressive landmarks in Australia. It s the largest monoliths in the world and is 348 metres high, 3.6 km long, 1.9km wide and has a base measuring 9.4 kms.
for us Uluru is more than just a rock, it is a living cultural landscape and is considered sacred , it's the home of one of our greatest spirit the rainbow serpent .The aboriginal religion and culture is very unique There is no afterlife in Indigenous Australian religions, no heaven or hell, which sets them apart from many other world religions. For the Aboriginal people of Australia, Dreamtime represents the essence of their society, culture, traditions and spirituality.
It's a period in which spirit people created the world ,the time when the Ancestral Spirits progressed over the land and created life s , then tired they wanted to rest and went back into the earth to sleep, they could turn into rocks or trees . it is considered our duty to respect and look after the earth because it s were live these spirits and pass these ancient traditions on for all of time.
we can call these ancestral tjukuritja or waparitja .
Dreamtime is the core of everything, and of the many sacred sites in Australia, few are as important as Uluru.
I know that everyone here have heard of Uluru but what about Kata-Tjuta? As you can see it on your right it s a group of large, domed rock loocated 25 kms west of Uluru
. It consists of 36 domes and at 546 m (1,791 ft) above the ground is about 198m higher than Uluru. Kata Tjuta means “many heads” in the Anangu language . it , in our culuture, the home of the snake Wanambi
