Inspired by brave Muslims
We can find brave men and women amongst us. They break social barriers and they kick ass.
Reading the Muslims for American progress project made me cry, like literally a flood of tears on my face. Why ? Because their braveness and their boldness of achieving their dreams is commendable. They are children of immigrants and converts who aren't just changing people's lives but also their own. They struggled and they have pushed through the bullshit.
They spoke on community and how to make us unite and love one another. Nowadays people aren't interested in someone else's wellbeing it's all about me, myself and I. The compassion and empathy aren't as strong as 40 years ago. Back then the whole neighborhood was your family, people cared more for one another. In today's society we have the jealousy, the drama and the pettiness taking up all of the love and support we could've gave each other.
In a world were people are getting woken up from this sleep that society has put us in, we are learning how to love again.
Everyone kind of touched on mental health and how it affects everyone. It's not just a white thing or a kuffar thing. If we don't get the right help we need, things can go left real fast. As Muslims we all have this shame of needing professional help or medication because we aren't hurting physically. It hurts just as bad as a visible wound, sometimes even worse. Mental health issues are on the rise and not many understand the proper treatment for someone to heal. It's easy to pop a pill and forget about your problems, but if you don't talk it through with someone you will only cover your wounds instead of healing them.
I hope as a Muslim woman we can fill the gaps between our ummah and help us to unite, to learn and love more. The issues that we should tackle are culturally considered taboo, but not in Islam. Culture and religion don't always go hand in hand, but love does so let's all love more !
