I participated in Ariana Stevenson's trip.
First of all, when we arrived at the top of the mountain I was quite excited. Then when we came down the mountain and felt the cold it became unbearable. It was the only negative point of the journey.
In the distance we had seen a village so we were hopeful and then we arrived in front of it and it was actually abandoned. Finally, three hours later we arrived at Colquepata. We thought we had only forty minutes to walk to Paucartambo but it took us two hours. At least we got to see some beautiful landscapes such as nice farmland and eucalyptus trees, which made me feel better.
Paucartambo was a very charming village and the clothes of the inhabitants reminded us of the ones people used to wear centuries ago.
Later we arrived in San Pedro. We had gone there especially to see the Crock of the Roks birds doing their wedding dance. A man who had woken up around midnight because of the rain left us camped on his football field. I thought this was very nice and one of the only good thing about the day. After a puncture and some adjustments we were off again at full speed towards a jungle. The rich jungle air and humidity filled our lungs, which was really satisfying. And then yellow butterflies surrounded us as we cycled. I think that was one of the best memories of this perilous journey.
We arrived at another village called Pilcopata where we managed to make some repairs. We had decided to take a local bus but had to wait as there were no buses for two days. During the next few hours of waiting we started talking to complete strangers. This was really something unusual for us. And then an old woman expressed her dissatisfaction with tourists who are not respectful of the environment. We were happy because when we travel we eat in local restaurants and we are concerned about the environment.
Thanks to this trip I gained a new experience in survival. I was able to push my limits especially when we walked for hours. This trip also taught me to appreciate the simple things and the nature also gave me a lot. I loved my trip and it changed my perception of life. I will do it again in the years to come.
