1.0 Executive Summary

As London’s most delightful museums, the Childhood' s museum in Bethnal Green has an excellent childhood's collection items such as dolls and toys and is sure to delight children as much as adults. As MobileReference (2010) identifies, the museum has a mission “to encouage everybody, especially young people, to discover and get pleasure from the designed world, in unique toys or other effects made for and made by children.” The collection covers diverse objects from the seventeenth century to the present day. All collection emanates from all over the world. In addition to the permanent displays, there are many outstanding exhibitions as well as children’s events held at the museum throughout the year. This review critically evaluates the Museum of Childhood as a museum that creates a visitor experience similar to that of their childhood. The paper provides an overview of the museum, its relation with its parent museum in the provision of attraction services, the aspects that create a user experience, as well as the issues the museum faces and the recommended solutions to the same.

1.1 Overview of the Museum of Childhood

The Museum of Childhood, located in Bethnal Green, in the Eastern End of London, was founded in 1972. The Museum called V&A is a division of Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), the national museum of arts in the U.K. The V&A Museum is located in South Kensington, in London. Its opening was in 1852 as the Museum of Manufacturers at Marlborough House (Baker & Richardson 1999). The Museum originally contained nucleus originating from contemporary objects of applied arts, which originated from the Great Exhibition of 1851 during the instigation of Prince Albert. The contents of the museum also contained collections from Government School of Design. The Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green opened as the Bethnal Green Museum, which exhibited a variety of objects such as collections of V&A paintings and sculpture (mostly Italian Arts) and other celebrated collections such as glass, ceramics, jewelry, fashion, ivories, metalwork, miniatures, photographs, fashion, and medieval enamels among others (Baker & Richardson 1999).
