Witches

A myth is something span trought the centuries and influence stories. Witches and wizards are people thought to possess magical powers or to command supernatural forces. They appear in the myths and folktales of many cultures. The word witch usually refers to a female, though male witches exist in some traditions.

Witches have been popular subjects throughout history in tales, myths and legends. About them, the first pictures which came in our mind is fearsome witch with a cauldron or an old woman in a pointed hat flying on her broomstick. But it’s far from the truth.

Many misconception spread about witches, one of the most heinous they deserve hanging or burning. But anyone have proof against this women who are considered like witches just because they use plants or prayer to treat diseases. Anyone can judge and kill someone just because he suspected… Negative image are used to create a massive fear, people began to be told of these "creatures of Satan", usually female, who would make pacts with the Devil to live a life of sorcery and magic... and in service to him. Ridiculous tests were given such as a woman being tied with a stone and thrown in the river and if she came back up, she was a witch and killed on the spot. This way of thinking conduce to many unjustified death based only on belief. When someone suspected a women to be a witch everyone guess it because there were a big terror about them.

Moreover witches were accused for profit but most of them were too poor to have possessions. Many time after, people known the witchcraft doesn’t exist like it were describe but the idea of accusations for money is readily grasped because we, today, take money seriously.

Stories about witches and wizards continue to fascinate the public and to inspire writers. In addition to providing an otherworldly atmosphere, such stories often reveal truths about ordinary human existence. In the series of modern fantasy books about Harry Potter, the Scottish writer J. Κ. Rowling describes an entire society involved with magic. The reader follows Harry, an ordinary boy, as he studies at the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Nowadays, there is a form of witchcraft with spiritual doctor, or natural medicine but it doesn’t see the same manner like in the past. Today people need more humanity in this world of new technology and back in traditionnal medicine give to them a clear conscience and maybe they guess more in this manner than new medicine. Furthermore it’s less expensive.

We used the story of witches ans witchcraft for the children, not for the history but for their imagination and scare them. We are aware of the history, we study it at school and we use it for the children.
