Idée de progré

I'm going to talk about the idea of progress. Progress is a very complex concept because it can be applied to many fields such as advanced technologies, but also health, the living conditions and so on. It has shaken our traditions causing various developments in different societies of the planet.

To illustrate ths notion we worked on a designer babies. The parent’s can choose the sex of their child and select babie’s characteristics. The goal is every child would be perfect, would never get ill and brilliant at art and sport.

But what is a designer baby and can we really create one today ?

The firs document I have chosen is a BBC documentary about a conception of designer baby. The goal of the geneticists is create a master race without diseases and violence. They play god. They want to eradicate the weak. Today is possible to select the colours of the eyes or the colour of the hair. We can choose a boy or a girl. But the doctors want to isolate the gene of intelligence for example. Now is not possible because the technology can’t do that. But isolate a gene will be possible in the future.

I’m afraid because there is not chance. In the future, I think, they will look like a robot.

The doctors can do mistakes and it can be dangerous for the child. The child is the first victim of the progress of technology. This document represent the idea of progress because the society evolve and the technology too.

The second document I have chosen is a film by Andrew Niccol named Bienvenue à Gattaca. This film is about a progress of technology. The parents have a boy and they will not change him. At the same time the doctors do a genetics card of the child with a blood sample. The doctor is pessimistic because the life expectancy of the child is 30 years old. After, the parents have decided to design their future baby. They establish a preimplantation genetic diagnosis. With the geneticist’s sperm and eggs they can choose their future baby’s traits. The doctor has eradicated baldness, myopia, alcoholism, violence and obesity. The parents are hesitant but they want a perfect baby.

CCL In such a world, the weak and the unusual would no longer exist. These children would never be sick and would always be happy. More, the life expectancy increased and the people don't want to die. But the life is not a life if she has not an end.

The technology evolves quickly but we can't do the perfect baby. i think it is very good.

Designer baby can be in the notion places a form of power. Because, doctors want to eradicate the weak. It is an idea of genocide. It is a form of power. The geneticist has the power to change the population
