THE 7’S MODEL BY MC’KENSEY

This model is proposed to offer a firm with a structure in order to generate value within its overall organization. It assumes seven dimensions which include: strategy, structure, systems, style, staff, skills and shared values.

The 7’s model was made to help organization’s review their business capabilities within a competitive environment; According to TJ, Peters and Philips (1980) This model can help a company review the effectiveness in its marketing operations, determine how best a company can adopt a new strategic direction as well as assess the modifications needed to support new technological changes. The 7’s elements are Structure, Strategy, System, Staff, Style, Skills and Shared Values.

STRATEGY

Morrison’s company has a clearly defined strategy, which helps the company achieve its set objectives. The company has a flexible strategy which makes room for adjustment when required; Morrison’s also is able to deal with the competition pressure surrounding the retail industry.( Max McKeon 2011) says strategy is about shaping the way in order to reach desirable goals, while( Henry Mintzberg 2010) assumes strategy is a pattern in a stream of decisions.

STRUCTURE

This refers to the organization of resources within a company into different business groups and teams, Morrison’s has the ability to integrate its digital marketing teams with other management departments such as the communication, human resource and finance, this structure helps in decision making.

SYSTEM

Morrison’s has an excellent system in place that helps different departments to function effectively.

STAFF

Adequately staffed retail chain, with well trained staff, who are effective and motivated.

STYLE

Leadership style matters in every organization, style of managing employee as well as problem solving, the style of organizational culture should be effective.

SKILLS

In Morrison’s the skills of their employees are monitored continuously and improved from time to time through training. Their staff can be identified with particular skills.

SHARED VALUES: Every organization has its core values, Morrison’s has an excellent corporate culture and strong pillars which their values and beliefs are built on.

Culture within an organization

Culture can be defined as the beliefs and values which influence people’s behavior or their way of life, it can either be shared within a community or learned in an organization. According to Ravasi and Schultz (2006) culture within an organization is a set of shared mental assumptions that guide action within an organization through the definition of appropriate behavior for various situations, while Needle (2004) define culture as a representation of collective values, beliefs and principals of members of an organization which create factors such as history, product, market and technology, on the other hand he refer corporate culture to those cultures purposely formed by management to achieve particular strategic goals.
