1. Abstract

Technological innovation for sustainable development is a recurring theme put forward by the actors in politics and business.

It covers a multitude of approaches often difficult to identify, as the subject is vast,

and stirs up complex promises to visualize and quantify.

the immensity of electrical and electronic tools, for which the

consumption reduction is needed, well before their replacement by new

devices consume less energy, justify easily the use of

technologies easy now to implement, to ensure an efficiency ,tangible and

immediate energy(1).

The IT professionals have realized that the central data processing consumed more energy, primarily electricity. The U.S. government has since 1992 launched a program called Energy Star (2) to curb the growth of energy consumption of computers.

Designed to promote energy efficient products, Energy star label helps spreading the idea of saving energy among business companies and real estate investors.

It permits new technology devices to be developed and have a real business model as this label is becoming a standard.

2. Brief Company background

The company focused, is called Newedge USA, a registered broker-dealer and futures commission merchant.

In 2011, their gross revenues were $ 8,525,271. Their gross profit was $6,358,489. Their net income for the same year was $870,528. Therefore, their budget available for IT is around $150,000.

3. Discussion of business problem(s)

a. Cost to company, opportunity lost, productivity lost, operational inefficiency (Financial)

After a big social plan, where they have suppressed 25% of their jobs, Newedge has decided to make savings where it’s possible to do. Their offices are located in a big building in Chicago’s downtown. They want to keep their business address as it’s really important for their reputation and the image of leading company they want to keep giving. They are already aware of the huge electricity bill they pay for their offices, servers and computers consumption. The electricity bill was for 2011 of $52 477. This is simply a wasting of money, and the number of electric and electronically devices confirms the interest of implementing the smart grid solution, green saving billing.

The other reason for Newedge to adopt this technology is, firstly, to follow the new standard Energy star label is becoming, and secondly to be able to expand his image as energy saver before his shareholders, European banks involved publicly in developing green energy.
